How to care for your cast iron skillet:
-
Wash the skillet thoroughly with hot water to remove any food residue. A sponge and dish soap can be used if needed.
-
Dry the entire surface well (preferably using a stovetop flame) and store it in a dry place to prevent rust.
-
If cooking with acidic ingredients (like tomato sauce or lemon), we recommend lightly re-seasoning the skillet afterwards: apply a thin layer of oil and heat it until it begins to smoke.
How to season your skillet:
-
Wash the skillet well using a sponge and dish soap.
-
Dry it completely. Do not leave it soaking.
-
Apply a small amount of oil over the cooking surface and the bottom of the skillet. Spread it evenly with a paper towel.
-
Place the skillet on a stovetop over high heat and let it smoke for 5 minutes.
-
Remove from heat and allow it to cool.
-
Once it’s cool, your skillet is ready to use.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Seasoning: It is a fundamental step when cooking for the first time, but it is not complicated at all. You can use oil or animal fat. After heating the Grill or Cast Iron item, apply a thin layer of oil and spread it evenly throughout the cooking surface. Let it burn for a while until you notice the material changes its color and finish.
It is completely normal for rust or small spots to appear on the surface of a new or used grill or cast iron. This happens because the material is exposed to moisture. However, these spots will disappear with heat, oil, and continuous use. The seasoning process, as well as regular cooking, helps create a non-stick, uniform surface over time.
Cleaning: To clean your Kankay after each use, use the same oil and scrub off any remains from previous cookings.
